Job Aim

To establish and develop the Nuffield Family Justice Observatory, providing strategic and operational leadership, recruiting and leading the executive team, overseeing budgets and developing sustainable future. To work closely with the Chair and with Board members to agree strategy, work plans and research projects which meet the priority needs of the family justice system.

Resources

A budget of c£4.7m. Budgetary provision has been made for a team of c5 people, yet to be recruited.

Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Strategic and operational responsibility for the leadership, management and development of the FJO
  • Lead the development of a credible body of accessible knowledge and research to inform decision-making in the child’s best interests in the Family Justice System
  • Build the demand for research and evidence on children in the Family Justice System among practitioners, policy makers and researchers to maximise its use and impact
  • Work closely with the Chair and members of the FJO Governing Board to create firm foundations for the FJO
  • Report to and work closely with the CEO and Director of Justice at the Nuffield Foundation to ensure synergy between the FJO’s development and Nuffield’s justice programme
  • Lead and manage the FJO team, budget, finances, operations and business plan
  • Develop, embed and oversee the work of the Advisory Stakeholder Council and Expert Evidence Panel
  • Act as Ambassador for the FJO, developing relationships and partnerships at high levels with the key stakeholders in the wider family justice field to create a strong and respected presence for the organisation
  • Build the sustainability of the FJO through developing key partnerships and future funding opportunities.
