Traverse is an employee-owned consultancy with a vision of a more inclusive society, that delivers better outcomes for all. We work on complex and often controversial issues, and we see this space as not only where important change and impact can happen, but where creativity and innovation are essential to delivering that change. We’re driven by social purpose, working on themes from climate change to digital innovation, from infrastructure to inequality, and we’re now looking for our next Chief Executive Officer.

At Traverse, we believe that in a society that works for everyone, decisions must be based on good evidence and the voices of citizens. Our work spans research, engagement, consultation and evaluation, but is underpinned by a focus on rigour, inclusivity, lived experience and capacity building.

Formerly the Office for Public Management, we were founded in 1989 as an independent, employee-owned organisation and consultancy founded to help ensure that public services are designed and implemented efficiently, effectively and in the public interest. We are famous for our work with organisations across health, social care, local and central government, children’s services, education, the police and community safety, the voluntary sector, research, and regulation.  More recently, our work has grown with utility companies, transport, infrastructure, and energy. All the people we work with share a common theme: a determination to improve the well-being of the communities they serve.

As well as our commitment to delivering high-quality work that has a positive social impact, we are also dedicated to creating an inspiring, nurturing environment that supports staff well-being and professional development. We see these two priorities being interconnected: we believe that the quality of our relationships at work determines the quality of our work. We’re keen to welcome a new Chief Executive who would thrive providing leadership in this environment.

Whether you currently work in the private, public or third sector, have run a social research consultancy or are sector agnostic, we’re excited to hear from collaborative, dynamic and inclusive leaders with an ability to balance commerciality and social purpose. We’re looking for demonstrable experience of leading large, ideally creative and project-based teams and of turning creative ideas into commercial success. An ability to ask challenging and constructive questions is important, as is a desire to work in partnership with a wide variety of stakeholders. More generally, we’re looking for our Chief Executive to be our external face, our ambassador, as we grow sustainably.
