UK Cyber Security Council

Chief Executive Officer

Salary circa. £115,000 p.a.

Launched in Spring 2021, the UK Cyber Security Council is a new independent body with the ambition of advising, shaping, and informing national policy in the rapidly growing and increasingly important industry of cyber security.

Cyber security is the new frontline for national security: for individuals, for private companies, for charities, for government and more. While the technical aspects of cyber security are the responsibility of the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, the UK needs a body responsible for increasing the number, variety and diversity of cyber security specialists that the country produces, for raising the overall standard of skills of everyone in the profession, for ‘standardising the standards’, and for raising awareness of the importance of the critical importance and value of the profession to organisations and wider society.

Though we are currently a private company, we are in the process of registering with the Charity Commission so we can retain our independence as we grow. Our inaugural Chief Executive Officer will play a pivotal role in establishing the Council not just as a leader in the profession and influencing its standing and reputation within the UK and globally, but also designing and building a membership-based organisation that can become financially self-sustaining as quickly as possible. This is a big task, but simultaneously one of unique opportunity.

This is a newly created role, and we are looking for ideas, creativity and potential as much as tried and tested experience. It is not essential to have worked in the cyber security profession before; instead, we prioritise excellent stakeholder engagement and management skills, a track record of driving growth strategies and sound political judgement regardless of the sector/s you have worked in. Moreover, as we grow as a team, organisation and brand, resilience, intuition, and an empathetic and empowering approach to leadership and management will be crucial.
