The Duke of Edinburgh Award
Executive Director of UK Operations
DofE has been equipping young people for life and work since 1956. But today, as we battle a global pandemic and its economic and social fallout, our work has never been more vital. DofE helps young people to explore who they are, grow in confidence and independence, and develop the skills they need to successfully navigate adult life. Any young person can do their DofE – regardless of ability, gender, ethnicity, background or geography. Achieving an Award isn’t a competition and it’s not about being first. It’s all about expanding your horizons, setting personal challenges and pushing yourself to achieve them.
As we prepare to launch our new Strategy, we are looking to recruit three new Executive Directors to make this goal a reality. We are seeking applications for a Chief Financial Officer, an Executive Director of Operations and an Executive Director of Strategy and Engagement. Building on strong foundations you will combine passion for our mission with the confidence of someone who is at the top of their game professionally. A true collaborator, with the ability to inspire others, you will bring fresh thinking and the ability to bring our strategy to life through operational excellence and innovation. If you are passionate about empowering young people and have the drive to lead and inspire the DofE team and our 40,000+ volunteer leaders to help young people thrive in a rapidly changing world, we’d love to hear from you.
Executive Director of UK Operations – You will be an experienced leader of operational teams who has worked at executive level and can provide strong, motivational leadership to DofE’s UK operations teams. In this crucial executive director role, you will lead our established team of eight Country and Region Directors across the four nations to extend access to DofE programmes to as many young people as possible, including those who are at risk and maginalised, through effective partnership development, target-setting and high-quality account management. You will be accountable for the design of the DofE programme and quality assurance through our licencing process and safeguarding young people, so experience of service delivery to young people and the associated assurance framework that comes with it would be valuable. As DofE is effectively a social franchise, previous experience of delivering a range of operational delivery models, ideally including a franchise, would be useful. You will also be the senior Director responsible for liaising with the DofE International Award Foundation, our Licensor, and a wide range of strategic partners and umbrella bodies, so diplomacy and the ability to influence effectively and build strategic relationships will be key.
